Our objective is to establish a model vegetable garden in both Püspökszilágy and Penc, which will also serve as a demonstration center. These facilities will provide an opportunity to observe and acquire knowledge on how healthy food can be produced and processed locally, without the use of chemicals, originating from seasonal, small-scale cultivation, by applying both traditional and innovative agricultural techniques.
The gardens will serve not only as sites of vegetable cultivation but also as meeting places for the local communities. The food produced here is intended to be used in local public catering and at community events, thereby providing residents with a model of how gardens can be cultivated using technologies and approaches that do not deplete the soil but rather enhance its nutrient content; how vegetables and fruits can be preserved using traditional methods with minimal application of artificial substances; and how the nutrients and raw materials necessary for cultivation can be maintained in a continuous cycle, with minimal waste generation and maximum reuse.
Within the project, the existing market garden of MagosVölgy Ecological Farm will serve as an additional model garden, while the Farm’s staff will provide mentoring support to the two newly established municipal gardens.
The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences supports the participants throughout the process by conducting research and preparing studies. The accumulated knowledge will be compiled in a way that can serve as a replicable and transferable model for other small municipalities in the future.
The Klímabarát Települések Szövetsége ensures that all of this is made understandable, visible, and accessible to a wider audience, as it is responsible for the overall project communication and dissemination.
